The Good Word

Ever get that feeling when you're bogged down, that you can't breathe? That you're sinking instead of swimming? I feel like that a lot. I've never been one to handle stress well. I was the kid in second grade with stomach ulcers because the teacher stressed me out so much.

This semester, I have vowed to myself that I'm going to swim, not sink. To take deep breaths, and basically not be one big ball of giant stress. I've started a journal that I'm collecting quotes to help me along the way. Just happy little sayings that will put my mind at ease, make me laugh, or smile...even if it is just for a second.

I was wondering if ya'll could do me a favor. Would ya'll mind leaving a quote or two or three (really, however many you'd like) in the comments so I can add them to my book? They can be from tv, movies, songs, scripture. Really anything. I would very much appreciate it.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday.

XO,
~E

Who would have thought...

...that the creepy man sticking out of the middle of the Mississippi River (featured in this post) apparently has a full body?

My friend Lindsey and I accidentally took a detour along the waterfront and, for the first time since I've lived in St. Louis, saw the entire Lewis and Clark statue. Sorry for the funky picture--all I had was my cellphone.

Who knew?

PS: Hi to my new followers! It's nice to "meet" you.

Fill in the Blank Friday!

Happy Friday ya'll! I hope ya'll have wonderful things planned for this weekend.

1. The last thing I ate was strawberries.

2. The last song I listened to was...that's a good question. I didn't listen to music today (it's been an off day). Although I did have "The Cave" by Mumford and Sons stuck in my head.

3. Using the letters in my name I can spell {Elyse}...Seely, Eels, Yes, Eyes...my brain isn't working today.

4. If I had to dress in one color for the rest of my life I would pick blue. I already have a lot of it in my closet. You can pretty much match it with anything.

5. If you were to look in my bag right now you'd find a bazillion things of chapstick, my wallet, medicine, a book, pens, a sticky note with reminders and one with song lyrics.

6. When I finish filling in the blanks I'm going to read some of my book and go to bed. Can you tell I cheated and I'm doing this on Thursday night instead of Friday?

7. My all time favorite song to dance to is...oh holy crow how am I supposed to choose? I dance to anything and everything! I love dancing to The Beastie Boy's "Brass Monkey", Elvis's "A Little Less Conversation", David Bowie's "Golden Years", basically anything from Katy Perry. Goodness, I could go on, and on.

PS: If you want to play along, you can find FITBF over here...

Catching up...

Boy, oh, boy has it been a long time since I've updated. I'm so sorry that I've been away. I've missed ya'll! I won't make this post long windish, but I just thought I'd fill ya'll in on what's been going on.

I stopped getting on blogger for a bit, back in October, because I got really sick. I had asthmatic bronchitis, but it seemed to linger a bit too long. I missed an entire week of school (something I've NEVER done before...I only missed 3 classes in undergrad) and work. Then my parents came into town to take care of me. Okay, well they were planning on coming into town anyways, but their timing was perfect. So after that, I spent the rest of the semester catching up with my assistantship, and schoolwork. Which brings us to the holidays. Which were one whirlwind of a time. I got to go back home to Georgia for three glorious weeks, and I'm just getting back into the swing of things ready to start my last semester in grad school on Tuesday! AHH!

I don't want to end this post on a downer, but I'm going to, since it's important to me. One of my childhood friends passed away yesterday. We had known each other since first grade. She was born with spina bifida and had been in and out of hospitals for years. I let our friendship dwindle once I went to college. It wasn't that I had time for her, it was just that we were in two different phases in life. We kept in touch through letters and texts. She always had a dear place in my heart, but I also always took it for granted that she would be there. I learned today that friendship should not be taken for granted. I will always carry her in my heart, but today, my heart feels a bit heavier for her loss. If ya'll wouldn't mind, please say a quick prayer for my friend's family.

Thanks ya'll...and I promise, I'll be around more.

Random Thoughts...

Okay, more like 2 random thoughts, but I thought I'd share.

Does anyone else think that Justin Bieber and Paul Wesley favor?

Also, does this commercial...

remind you of this from Doug? I am such a 90s child.

Any random thoughts you'd like to share?

abcs of me

I couldn't resist joining in on this post any longer...so here we go, the ABCS of Me :D

Age: 24

Bedsize: Queen.

Chores that you hate: I hate having to drag my laundry to the basement of my apartment building. So I usually try to get away with doing laundry only once a week.

Dogs: Zero. I lost my beloved Patches earlier this year.

Essential start to your day: Coffee and a phone call to my Mama.

Favorite color: I have a lot of favorite colors. When I was little they were "lime green and a sickly shade of orange". Now I love yellow and blue.

Gold or Silver: It depends on my mood. Can I cheat and say White Gold?

Height: 5'-10"

Instruments you play: I played the clarinet when I was younger. I also took guitar lessons, and I'm hoping to brush up on my skills (or lack there of) soon.

Job title: Graduate student and Curatorial Assistant

Kids: I love kiddos. I worked in an elementary school for 4 1/2 years and nannied over the summer. I'm not ready for my own kids yet, but I love "borrowing" them for a few hours.

Live: I live in Georgia, but I stay in the midwest.

Mother's Name: Mama, Mumsie Dearest...Linda.

Nicknames: Oh goodness, there are a lot. Elysie Piecie, Ese, Esies, Pumpkin, JD, OCJD, E, Lilster, Dipstick, Doodlebug, Angel Baby, Lyse, Goober Twin, Belyse...and the list could go on and on.

Overnight hospital stays: None...thank goodness.

Pet peeves: When people smack on their gum! Ugh. Oh and when people disrespect books.

Quote from a movie or tv show: "I've always felt out of step. Like literally stumbling through my life. I never felt normal. Because I'm not normal. I don't want to be."

Right or Lefty: I'm a righty...but I use my left hand sometimes too.
Siblings: I'm an only child.

Time you wake up: 6:45 AM on days I have to work...the other days, just whenever I wake up.

Underwear: From Target.

Vegetable you hate: English peas...gag.

What makes you run late: Deciding I hate my outfit, or watching too much tv while getting ready.

X-Rays You've Had: What have I not had an xray on? My foot, ankle, arm, chest cavity, back, head...you name it I've had it.

Yummy food you make: I think I'm a pretty good cook. I make some killer Italian food...homemade sauce is a must.

Zoo Animal: Besides otters...zebrahs of course! And yes, I spell zebrahs how phonetically.

You are Extraordinary

Over at the wonderful Sara's blog, I found a link to this lovely post. It spoke so much to my heart that I had to pass it on. Please, go read this...

"....be grateful of every breath, every step, every minute you are alive & blinking in this moment. Realize that beauty is just a concept. Keep it in perspective. Meditate on the miraculousness of your body, the cohesiveness of your insides. Those are the things that truly matter. Your body is beautiful, perfect, outstanding the way it is."
